Terms of Use — landing.fyi

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the landing.fyi website, your landing.fyi account, and the landing-analysis service (collectively, the "Service") operated by the operator of landing.fyi (the "operator", "we", "us"). By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Important: landing.fyi is post-flight analysis, not a flight instrument

landing.fyi reads avionics log files after a flight and produces an estimated landing score and derived figures (winds, height above ground, crosswind, centerline offset, sink rate, and similar). These are estimates computed from your logged data — they are not measurements from a certified instrument.

The Service is purely educational — for information, self-assessment, and curiosity. It is not a certified instrument, a flight-data-monitoring or FOQA system, an airworthiness tool, or a source of currency, proficiency, or training records for any regulatory, checkride, or maintenance purpose.
It is not a substitute for any applicable civil aviation regulations, for the instruction or judgement of a certificated flight instructor, or for your aircraft's documentation and avionics.
Scores and derived values can be wrong — through log errors, dropped data, mis-detected events, or a landing projected onto the wrong runway.
Do not rely on landing.fyi for any safety-of-flight, maintenance, or airworthiness decision. Your aircraft's documentation, your avionics, and official aeronautical sources are authoritative; where anything here conflicts with them, they govern.
The pilot in command remains solely responsible for the conduct of every flight.

landing.fyi is provided for learning and interest only, and any information you take from it is used entirely at your own risk.

Your account & eligibility

You need an account to upload flights. To use the Service you must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live (and in any event at least 16 years old). You agree to provide accurate account information and to keep it current. You are responsible for activity under your account and for the security of the email inbox that receives your sign-in links. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without your authorization. We may suspend or close an account that abuses the Service or breaches these Terms.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or to disrupt, attack, or probe it, or to bypass any security measure or rate limit;
scrape or harvest the public share, airport, or leaderboard pages with automated systems beyond any published rate limits;
upload flight data, identities, or content that you do not have the right to upload, or that belongs to another person without their permission;
attempt to access another user's account, flights, or data.

Your content & the licence you give us

"Your content" is what you upload or create with the Service — avionics log files, the flight and landing data we derive from them, and your profile details. You keep all rights you have in your content.

So that we can run the Service, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, back up, and process your content — including running it through the analyzer to detect and score landings and to build your dashboard. Uploading a flight does not make any of it public. Only if you take the separate, optional step of sharing a landing (using the Share button), and for the public airport leaderboards described below, do you also grant us the licence to display that content publicly and to include it in anonymized, aggregated statistics. This licence exists only to operate and improve the Service. You represent that you have the right to upload your content and to grant this licence.

Our intellectual property

The Service itself — the landing.fyi website and software, its design, layout, and look and feel, the text and graphics we create, the landing-score methodology and the way it is presented, and the landing.fyi name and logo — belongs to the operator of landing.fyi and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. Except for your own content, nothing in these Terms gives you any ownership of the Service. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the Service for its intended purpose under these Terms. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from the Service, or remove any copyright or proprietary notice, except as applicable law allows or as we permit in writing.

Sharing & public data

Your flights are private to your account by default, with two exceptions you control:

Shared landings (opt-in). If you share a landing using the Share button, anyone you give the resulting link to can view that landing. A shared landing shows the score and date by default; your name, aircraft, and tail number stay hidden unless you turn each on, and your email is never shown. You can stop sharing it at any time, which disables the link.
Public airport leaderboards (on by default, anonymized). Qualifying landings may appear on the public per-airport pages. By default a leaderboard entry shows your aircraft type, date, and score, plus your first name and last initial if you have set a display name (otherwise "Anonymous"); your tail number is hidden unless you opt in. You can hide your name, or opt out of the leaderboards entirely, from your account page — your email is never used on a leaderboard.

Stopping sharing a landing, opting out of the leaderboards, or deleting a flight stops further public display, but anonymized aggregate statistics that no longer identify you may persist. See the Privacy Policy for how we handle your data.

Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, the analytics and session-recording tools we use, and your choices. By using the Service you also agree to that policy.

No warranty

The Service — the website, the analyzer, the scores and sub-scores, detected events, runway projection, derived figures, maps, charts, share pages, and any sample data — is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, non-infringement, or uninterrupted availability. We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free, that any score or derived value is correct, that a landing will be detected or projected onto the correct runway, or that your data will always be available. No advice or information obtained from the Service creates any warranty not expressly stated here.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall the operator of landing.fyi be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages — including loss of profits, data, use, or goodwill; personal injury or death; or damage to property, aircraft, or equipment — arising out of or in connection with:

your use of, or inability to use, the Service;
any score, derived value, or other output of the Service, or any error, omission, or inaccuracy in it;
any decision made or action taken in reliance on the Service or its output;
any loss of, corruption of, or inability to access, flights or data you uploaded; or
any interruption, failure, or transmission of data through the Service;

even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. You assume all risk and responsibility for your use of the Service and its output.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total liability for any claim arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Service is limited to the amount you have paid to use the Service (which, as the Service is free, is zero) or, at our option, to re-supplying the Service to you.

Third-party services, trademarks & data sources

landing.fyi is an independent, third-party service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any avionics manufacturer, aircraft manufacturer, the FAA or any aviation authority, or any data provider. Product, avionics, and aircraft names referenced or illustrated by the Service — including Garmin®, G3X™, G1000®, Dynon®, Avidyne®, Aspen®, MGL Avionics, ForeFlight®, and other marks — are the trademarks of their respective owners and are used here nominatively only, to identify the equipment whose logs the Service reads. Any avionics illustrations shown in the Service (for example, when you choose your panel) are our own, used only to help you identify the system you fly. No affiliation or endorsement is claimed or implied.

Our runway and airport reference data is built from open data sources, each used under its own licence and credited on our Data & sources page. The Service also relies on third-party providers for hosting, email delivery, map tiles, content-delivery of code libraries, and analytics; see the Privacy Policy.

Feedback

If you submit feedback, comments, ideas, or suggestions about the Service, you grant us a perpetual, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use that feedback for any purpose, including incorporating it into the Service, without obligation to you. Your feedback is treated as non-confidential.

Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the operator of landing.fyi from and against any and all claims, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from or related to: (a) your use of and access to the Service; (b) any content you upload or share, including any violation of a third party's privacy, intellectual-property, or other right; (c) your violation of any of these Terms; or (d) your violation of any applicable law or regulation.

Account closure & discontinuation

You can stop using the Service at any time and can ask us to close your account and delete your data as described in the Privacy Policy. Closing your account disables your active share links. The Service is provided free of charge, and we may modify, suspend, or discontinue it, in whole or in part, at any time and for any reason, without notice or liability. We may also restrict access for anyone who abuses the Service or violates these Terms.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates the effective date of the current version. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

Governing law & disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, United States of America, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with the Service that cannot first be resolved informally between you and the operator shall be submitted to the federal or state courts located in the State of Colorado.
