A real number for every landing
"How was that one?" deserves a better answer than a shrug. landing.fyi gives every landing an objective, repeatable score.
Why we built it
Pilots already fly with avionics that record everything — airspeed, vertical speed, g, track, position — many times a second. That data has the whole story of every approach and touchdown in it. It just sits in a file nobody opens.
landing.fyi reads that file and turns it into something useful: every landing detected, scored 0–100, and broken into the six things that actually make a landing good — a stable approach speed, a steady glidepath, the centerline, the flare, how firmly the wheels touched, and how straight you rolled out.
The score is built to match how a pilot would judge it. Around 80 is a comfortable, passenger-friendly landing; the top of the scale is the kind nobody in back felt. It's calibrated to be aircraft-agnostic, so it's fair whether you fly a trainer or something faster.

Data & sources
Scoring a landing means knowing exactly where the runway is — its threshold, alignment, and dimensions. We build that reference from open data:
- United States — runway data from the FAA Aeronautical Information Services (NASR).
- Australia, New Zealand & Canada — OurAirports, refined against X-Plane Scenery Gateway apt.dat data, © its contributors, used under the GNU GPL v2 (the apt.dat-derived coordinates are published under the GPL); New Zealand runway geometry also contains data sourced from the LINZ Data Service, licensed for reuse under CC BY 4.0.
- Europe, South Africa & Namibia — AIP-grade runway data from open flightmaps, used under the OFMA General Users' Licence.
- Worldwide baseline — airport positions from OurAirports (public domain).
Aeronautical data is never perfect. If a landing is projected onto the wrong runway, or an airport you flew is off or missing, let us know:
Built for honest feedback
The point isn't a leaderboard. It's a mirror: a consistent measurement, flight after flight, so you can see whether the thing you're working on is actually getting better. When the data is too ambiguous to score honestly, the landing is flagged rather than guessed at.
