Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what the operator of landing.fyi ("we", "us") collects when you use the Service, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It works alongside our Terms of Use. landing.fyi is a free service.

Information we collect

• Account information — your email address (required, used to sign you in), an optional password (stored only as a salted hash), and the profile details you choose to add: display name, default aircraft type and registration (tail number), and preferred avionics.
• Flight logs and derived data — the avionics log files you upload are stored on our server. From each, we derive and store flight and landing records, including the flight's position track (latitude/longitude over time), altitude and speed series, the airport and runway, detected landings and go-arounds, scores and sub-scores, and figures such as winds, crosswind, and sink rate.
• Sharing and leaderboard preferences — your choices about share links and the public airport leaderboards.
• Feedback, problem reports, and contact — if you use a feedback, "report a problem", or contact form, we collect the message, any email address you provide, any sample log file you choose to attach, and your IP address (for rate-limiting), and we keep that correspondence.
• Server logs — our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, requested URL, user agent, timestamp, response status) for operations and security.
• Cookies and local storage — a cookie keeps you signed in, and a CSRF token protects form submissions. The analytics tools described below also set their own cookies or browser storage.

We do not ask for, or intentionally collect, special categories of personal data. Please don't upload data about other people that you aren't entitled to share.

How we use your information

• to run the Service — analyze your uploads, detect and score landings, and build your dashboard, flight views, and share pages;
• to send you the email you need to use the Service: one-time sign-in links, password resets, and occasional important service messages. We don't send marketing email;
• to operate the public surfaces you opt into (share links and airport leaderboards) and to produce anonymized, aggregated statistics (for example, our coverage counts);
• to understand and improve how the Service is used (see Analytics below); and
• to keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and comply with law.

Public and shared data

Most of your data is private to your account. A few surfaces can make some of it public, and you control each — see the Terms for detail:

• Shared landings you choose to share (opt-in; you can stop sharing at any time; your email is never shown, and name/aircraft/tail are hidden unless you turn them on).
• Your stats profile, a single shareable page summarising all your landings (average and best score, totals, and the airports you've flown to). You create the link yourself, can stop sharing it at any time, and your email is never shown. Your name is shown by default on this page (it's your own profile); aircraft type and tail are hidden unless you turn them on.
• Public airport leaderboards, which are on by default in anonymized form (aircraft type, date, score, and your first name + last initial if you set a display name; tail hidden unless you opt in; email never used). You can hide your name or opt out entirely from your account page.

Analytics and session recording

We use third-party tools to measure traffic and understand how people use the site. These run in your browser and may record your activity, including session recordings — a replay of pages you view and how you interact with them, which can include your own flight data as displayed on the page. When you are signed in, these tools are linked to your account using an internal, opaque account identifier, not your email address. You're in control: in the EU, UK, and other regions that require it, analytics cookies load only after you accept them in our cookie banner — and you can change that anytime via the Cookie settings link in the footer. Session recording is off unless you turn it on, and you can switch it on or off anytime on your account page. You can also limit collection with your browser's privacy settings or an extension that blocks analytics scripts.

Third-party providers & where your data is processed

We rely on third parties to deliver the Service: cloud hosting for the website and database, an email provider for sign-in and service messages, map-tile and code-library providers that your browser loads pages from, and the analytics tools above. Our servers and these providers are located in or process data in the United States. If you use landing.fyi from outside the United States, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal data, and we don't share it with third parties for their own marketing. We share it only with the service providers described above, acting on our behalf to run the Service; on the public surfaces you opt into; and where we are legally required to, or to protect the Service, our users, or the public.

Retention, backups, and deletion

We keep your account and flight data while your account is active so the Service works across visits. We make encrypted off-site backups to a separate server we operate, for disaster recovery. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your account, uploaded log files, and derived flight data from the live Service; residual copies may remain in backups for a limited period before they are overwritten, and anonymized aggregate statistics that no longer identify you may persist. Server access logs and analytics data are retained per their normal cycles.

Your choices and rights

• Review and update your profile, and manage your leaderboard and sharing preferences, from your account page.
• Opt out of the public leaderboards, or hide your name, at any time; stop sharing any landing you shared.
• Access, correct, or delete your account and data, or request a copy of it, by contacting us (below). Depending on where you live — for example in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or California — you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, port, or object to the processing of your personal data, and to complain to your local data-protection authority. We honour these requests as applicable law requires.
• Control analytics & recording — accept or reject analytics cookies in our cookie banner (and change it later via the footer's Cookie settings link), turn session recording on or off on your account page, or block analytics with your browser settings or a content blocker.

Security

We serve the site over HTTPS, store passwords only as salted hashes, scope every account's data to that account, and apply a content-security policy and other safeguards. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your data.

Children

landing.fyi is not directed to children. You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under that age. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top indicates the effective date of the current version. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
